Dr. Vardy is a licensed acupuncturist who strives to get patients healthier by always looking for alternatives to prescribing medications. Acupuncture is the process of inserting tiny sterilized needles into certain areas of the body. These fine needles correct imbalances in energy flow, which can help relieve pain and restore health.
In traditional Chinese medicine, energy or Qi (pronounced “chi”) flows through 12 channels called meridians. Each meridian connects to an organ. Frequently, sensations such as numbness, hot or cold, or soreness along a meridian are a vital clue to problems in that particular system.
Much like blood flowing in vessels throughout the body, energy flows on specific pathways and nourishes organs. Physical, chemical or emotional stressors can cause organs to malfunction or blood and energy to stagnate.
The purpose of acupuncture and traditional chinese medicine is to restore function. You may experience two sensations with acupuncture: the insertion (which may feel like a mosquito bite), and the arrival of energy at the tip of the needle (which may feel achy, distending, warm, electric…each person has a unique experience). We use the highest quality sterile, stainless steel needles. The areas on your body used in treatment will be cleaned in advance with a cotton ball saturated with food-grade ethyl alcohol.
Here are a few tips to get the most out of your acupuncture session:
1. Come to your appointments. If you absolutely need to reschedule an appointment, we require 24 hours notice.
2. Eat something in the three hours before receiving Acupuncture.
3. If healing reactions occur while under Acupuncture care or while taking Chinese Herbal Medicine, we highly recommend calling and informing the office of specific body reactions.
